The Citadel Bulldogs Men's Tennis Team Faces Tough Competition in Spring Opener
In their first matches of the spring season, the Citadel men's tennis team faced challenging opponents at the Carolina Indoor Facility, suffering defeats against North Florida (6?1) and No. 18 South Carolina (7?0). The Bulldogs secured their only point against North Florida through senior Ted Bagwell, who triumphed in a three-set match at the No. 4 singles position. However, North Florida dominated the doubles and singles matches overall.
Later, against South Carolina, the Bulldogs were unable to secure any victories as the Gamecocks claimed both the doubles point and all six singles matches. Head coach Chuck Kriese highlighted the importance of these early-season matches for player development and adaptation to indoor conditions. He praised Bagwell's performance and noted that the experience would help prepare the team for future competitions.
Looking ahead, The Citadel will compete against Alabama State and Florida State on January 18 at the Scott Speicher Memorial Tennis Center in Tallahassee, Florida.
